Merry Mayhem 2016 Terrain Day #2

Today was a very productive day with friends Dustin and Evan swinging by to help out Brian and myself work on terrain for this year’s upcoming Merry Mayhem event weekend. You haven’t seen much about Merry Mayhem specifically on this site, but scoot over the http://merry-mayhem.com and check out all of the information, dates, and how to register. In the mean time, while your here, look at all of the new terrain coming to the table this year at the event!

Ours. Neverborn Rise

I have been painting and playing quite a bit of Malifaux. Got started really by listening to the audio drama podcast, Tales of Malifaux, which is really good. So far, everything I have and am working on is Neverborn and I have only a single master, Lilith painted. I hope to soon start working on “The Queen Returns” Titania box and start playing with her as well.

Gen Con 2016 in Photos

Gen Con 2016 was great and I had a blast. This year was the busiest year that I have ever had with three True Dungeon runs, seminars, hobby events, and other craziness. My biggest three highlights for the show were:

  1. Going in with the rush at the opening of the vendor hall and buying the new Malifaux Crew Box, The Queen Returns for Neverborn.
  2. Doing the Hirst Arts resin casting class. Short and fast, but I learned so much about resin casting. Both safety tips and product tips.
  3. Being a part of the Infinity Seminar for what’s new that was done on Saturday and then walking away with a model for free. I had no idea how cool the seminar would be and actually walked out of their pumped about my PanOceania troops (which then got me to buy more models…..hmmmm…I see what they did there!!! Hahaha)

So we’ll be talking about this on the show I am sure, but in the mean time here are a ton of really quality pictures to tie you over!!!

Episode 69.5: US vs German Bolt Action Battle Report

Episode 69.5

In this episode, the hosts continue the Bolt Action topic by doing a battle report with Stark’s United States vs. Conesy’s Germans. The game is set thematically post D-Day France. The hosts are playing the scenario Envelopment. Both forces were selected using the standard force selector at 1000 points.

If you are interested in Bolt Action, the rules, the game, or just more information make sure you check out the website where all of the info is available at Warlord Games

The battle field set up for the game.

Turn 2 wraps up!

Turn 4. The game wraps up.

Episode 69: Bolt Action

Episode 69

In this episode, the hosts are joined by host of the Northern Front Podcast Brian Ward to talk about the game of Bolt Action. This is both a beginner friendly episode with plenty of insider tips from the experienced players that are all involved with this show. There are a couple of issues, particularly with Stark’s audio that we did the best we could to edit up during this show, but otherwise it’s all there in it’s full glory.

Tank Weathering Made Fairly Easy

Sherman_FinalI recently finished this Sherman tank for my Bolt Action demo game set. Being in the US, people see the Americans and instantly relate to them which helps draw them into the demo game. After all, the key is to get them started! While doing the model, I explored some new weathering techniques that I learned at Adepticon and I was amazed at how easy they worked and how great the finished product ended up looking.

Infinity PanOceania Painting Continues

There has been a little more work on my PanOceania forces for Infinity. I need to have 300 points of forces ready for the Infinity narrative event at Blood in the Sun in just a few weeks. That means it’s time to lock in and work on painting models and so I have been working on the figures pretty furiously.

I haven’t quite set on a list yet, but I will post my final lists after the event.

So far, I have finished an Auxillia and her Auxbot, an ORC Troop (picture is still WIP) and nearly finished a Guarda de Assalto with Auxbot (really just basing and a little shading at this point). Once those last figures are finished I want to work up another Auxillia and Auxbot (can’t have too many models that can be specialists) and an Aquila Gaurd. With those finished, I really have a list starting to shape up, but there will be 4-5 more models I would like to have finished to give me a little more to work with to list build with before this event.

Bolt Action: Assault on Normandy Next Steps

If you go back a while, Brian wrote up this great article reviewing the Bolt Action: Assault on Normandy Review product which can be purchased at your FLGS or at the Warlord On-Line Store. I would like to continue that review with a little extra, how do you grow it.

So in the box, you have 12 Germans, a Hanomag, and 20 US troops.

Ideally built, for the Germans you end up with something like the following:

  • 1 Lt with whatever gun you like (I recommend an Assualt Rifle for in game effectiveness or a pistol or rifle if you are going historical) and 1 assistant likely armed the same
  • 2, 5 rifleman squads armed with rifles and an NCO probably with an SMG
  • 1 Hanomag – don’t bother gluing on the rear MMG.

Ideally built for the Americans, you end up with something like:

  • 1 Lt with an SMG likely, and 1 buddy to go with him also armed with an SMG.
  • 2, 8 men squads with NCO with MMG and 1 man with a BAR
  • 1 Sniper team

Of course, you can build them a bunch of different ways, but this way you end up with what will be a table legal force that you can play with for both sides. I think early on, in your games, you are going to find that the American’s have a slight advantage. You will also find that you just don’t have a lot that you can do with these models once you really have the basic mechanics of the game down. So what do you do next?

Combined Army Unidron Batroid

2016-05-20 20.24.19This is pretty much the final model at this point. I have done a couple of little touch ups, but nothing significant from this picture. You can see in the original post, the start of the color scheme and now in this near finished model you can really see the difference and direction I was working towards. I have to note that the way the flesh tone worked it’s way out, it’s not entirely the way I envisioned it, but it’s pretty satisfying and I am really happy with it.
