The long break is over. Sorry folks about that. Between Brian’s classes and Conesy’s personal issues, we just haven’t been able to put our best foot forward this fall. I know you are all ramped up to hear more about Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.

In this episode, Brian and the Conesy cover Merry Mayhem 2015 which was a Warhammer: Age of Sigmar event. They then go over their thoughts now that Age of Sigmar has been out for about half a year as to what they thing works and makes it enjoyable and what doesn’t work so well for them.

With that, let’s roll those dice! Wisco’s for the win!!!!

Opening of the Heavens Post Event Report

So, with thoughts to planning something for upcoming Merry Mayhem, there has been a lot of questions as to what is right and what to do for the event. To try to get ahead of it, I wrote up a rules packet for an event and had some of the local players come out and play in a narrative, competitive event. I can’t remember if I posted the rules pack before, but here it is: Opening of the Heavens Rules Pack

So we had 6 players out, which really wasn’t enough to really showcase the way I had things laid out, but gave us all a chance to play some games. Instead of doing the originally scheduled 4 games, we cut it back to three and went at it. Overall, I think everyone had a great time playing the battleplans we used, which ended up being Pre-Emptive Strike, Watchtower, and The Ritual. The last one, the radius for the The Ritual effect seemed to be a little big, but the other scenarios weren’t too bad. Using a sideboard for players to swap in and change up their lists was super helpful and kept things like summoning in check while also allowing players to switch up their roles a bit as attacker and defender.

Couple of things I did take away from it though that I think could be an improvement. The sideboard for Undead in particular should be a bit bigger, maybe 50% of their force rather then a third. The ritual battleplan could be improved. Another thing I took away is that it wouldn’t be much to increase rounds to 2 hours and up the wound counts to 100 wounds or so. I do think that could open up a level of new broken issues with that level of points. I am setting up some games now to see what I think about the balance at the larger point sizes.

All in all, it was a great day and thanks to everyone that came out and played games at Pegasus Games.

High Elves vs. Chaos

2015-08-03 19.15.06Found myself tonight, a day after Gen Con, with an itch to play some Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. It was really a last minute decision as work and life really have had me busy, but the stars aligned and I was able to get out the door and to Pegasus Games with the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar starter box and the hardcover book.

When I got there, one of the local players, Fred, was happy to play me with his high elves. We didn’t agree on anything too fancy. I was really limited to what models I had in the starter box and so we ad-hoc’ed a couple of lists together, largely based on wounds and after some discussion picked the scenario Breakthrough. After a roll off, the high elves began to launch their assault. (more…)

Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Age of Sigmar game Khorne Chaos vs High Elves

Across the realms the sudden rolling thunder and scintillating flashes heralded no mere storm, but the start of a new era. Much rode on the sudden shock attacks of the Stormcast Eternals, for Sigmar knew he had only one shot at taking his almighty foes unaware. A single failure could spell disaster….

WiscoDice will be putting on a Warhammer: Age of Sigmar tournment at Pegasus Games on August 22, 2015 starting at 10 am. This is intended to be a narrative event, fun for everyone and everyone will walk away with something from this event!

Rules pack version 1.0, including round 1 scenario, is available for this event. Hopefully we can get 8-16 peeps out for this event.

There will be a $10 entrance fee that will contribute 100% to prize support for this event. If there are enough people out, we will have door prizes on top of the top awards in the rules pack. Event will be at Pegasus Games Madison on August 22nd. Schedule included in the rules pack.

Battle Report: Lizardmen vs Tomb Kings

Second game of  Age Of Sigmar tonight against Kenny from the Combat Phase Podcast. In this game we played 50 wounds with 20 minimum models. I feel like the lists started out balanced and was much more comfortable with the rules. I am sure that a player could still find a way to bring a very broken list with those rules, but this made for a smaller game that we could play and still be able to focus on learning the mechanics and deal with disruptions. When I say disruptions, I really mean the 3 players that came in asking about the game and what’s new with these rules and how they could get started.

Age of Sigmar Starter Box

If you saw the video of New Stuff, Episode 3 on our YouTube channel then you know what I thought of the starter box. Now, I need to get this set built, painted and demo ready in 8 days after acquiring it. After figuring that it would take me 2 days roughly to build and undercoat it, that leaves about 6 days to paint 47 models. That’s roughly 8 models a day. Ooff.

Well, off to a good start, 20 models complete today. I have painted all of the Bloodreavers from the starter. These are possibly the most complex of the models with the most color changes, with lots of flesh tones, reds, silvers and bronzes. Check them out as well as the rest of the figures from the starter. I will keep adding them to this post through the rest of this week.

7/14/2015 Update: 5 Blood Warriors and 1 Bloodsecrator is now complete. Right on schedule so far.

7/16/2015 Update: The remains of the chaos in the starter. Chaos Lord, Bloodstoker, and Khorgorath complete.

7/17/2015 AM Update: 5 Stormcast Eternals wrapped up before I go to work. Just had to finish their basing from the previous night.
