Nagash Unboxing

So, I stopped by Pegasus Games today and picked up the mighty Nagash, greatest necromancer to have ever lived. For those that don’t get much into Warhammer fluff, let’s just say he pretty much single handedly created the Vampire Counts. Pretty awesome huh? Yeah, a guy like that just can’t be put down.

Gaming Spotlight: Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar

One of my favorite board games ever, I was able to play it again this weekend and it reminded me just how cool this game is. The game has a loose, Mayan theme. The best part of this game, in my opinion, is the board. There is a lot going on with the board, but it’s pretty intuitive and every turn you interact with it by moving the board. The board is made up of giant gears that all interconnect. While still being a worker placement/earn resources type game, the dynamic board and great art adds to the feel and theme of the game allowing players to immerse them into the experience of the game. This is something that I find so lacking in so many great games, particularly these worker placement games.

Episode 54: Popular Ramblings

Episode 54

In this episode, our hosts get back together to talk about what drives armies to be popular. Joined by Eric, the StoneMonk, who is a new recruit to the Madison Warhammer Fantasy scene, the hosts ramble about what attracts both new players and veterans to an army. Also highlighted on are some of the business considerations that may come into play and/or drive what GW works to release.

Also covered is a recap of Conesy’s Gen Con experience. Everything from sculpting to Malifaux and True Dungeon. It was a blast and not enough time to really cover it all!

2 Vampire Character Conversions

IMG_20140813_162702722_HDRI don’t think there has been a podcast that I mentioned these guys on besides maybe saying I had more plans for conversions after the hellsteed vampire.  I’ll probably mention them in Episode 53.  These are two vampire models I did some conversions on that were pretty quick and easy but made for some really cool unique models.

Forest Stands for Wargame Terrain

This project was initial inspired by the release of the Wood Elf book. I had almost chosen them as my first army (but the Ogre models are hard to beat) and the new book came out when I was still pretty fresh to Warhammer. But a number of things conspired to make this my first terrain project.

Gen Con 2014 Photos and Initial Report

Hey all, this is the Conesy reporting in from Gen Con 2014 in Indianapolis. I will tell ya, it’s been a very busy and crazy year and I wish I would have had more time to take pictures and share with you folks so far. I have been booked in more events than I have ever been in the past, and that means running from event to event to make it on time for everything that we want to do.

Our group rolled in about 1:30 pm on Friday, the 15th of August. After getting through checking in at the hotel and picking up our passes at will call it was a very quick run through the vendor hall. After that, I took a sculpting class that was just amazing and I learned so much that it’s really going to help impact my modeling. From their, our group headed out for the Brugge. Tasty food and beverages were consumed in our yearly trip to this wonderful restaurant.

Saturday, we did True Dungeon. It was the Zephyr combat experience. Sorry, no pics of it. That isn’t allowed, but needless to say, we survived and managed not to be taken down. It was my first experience with this and while I had a blast, if you are a first timer then I strongly recommend that your not stuck with a healing class like a cleric. We are lined up for another session tonight and I aim to make up for the first experience with a different class.

Once True Dungeon was done, I raced over to the Malifaux HQ for a scheduled demo of the game. Wow, I have to say the game was a blast. I spent a little over an hour, running through the demo and learning the game. While the guy running the demo I am very sure let me smash his faction, I was really excited to play the game and started to see how the combos set up and work. I came away from this with the need to play this game. I all ready have some old metal Malifaux Neverborne at home, but I picked up a pile more figures. Now, just got to find time and get some of those Madison guys playing this game.

Here are the pictures from this weekend’s fun. If you have a chance let me know your here and share your experience with the us if you have the chance.

Vampire on Hellsteed

IMG_20140728_193345224

I think this guy was mentioned in Episode 53 which we recorded right after I finished him.  This guy as the title says is a vampire on hellsteed that I converted up out of a few different kits as there isn’t any model for one at the moment.  Although I was hoping I’d have it done in a week when I started I still actually got this done pretty quick in only about 2 weeks.  I took a fair amount of work in progress pics and put them together with my thought process in this post for you all to check out.

Gen Con 2014 Preview

So yeah, this Gen Con thing is happening again in about a week. Am I pretty excited, oh heck yeah. So this is going to be Conesy’s preview to Gen Con 2014. Unlike other previews though, where people talk about what the new games that are coming out, or what the top costumes are or anything like that, I am going to approach this from the top things that I am excited to check out this year.

But wait, there’s more!

Episode 53: Built WiscoDice Tough

Episode 53

Our hosts are back together and the topic of the day is list building. Listen to our main topic, as the hosts talk about how they come about list building decisions, whether for casual play or tournament. Several strategies are discussed on how you might tackle building your next army list!

Also, Conesy has an interview with Jesse Gayhart who is a listener that wanted to share some of his thoughts about tending the grove. Jesse plays Warhammer out of Games Universe in Menomonee Falls, WI. It’s interesting to get an outside take on how you can go about building and growing a great Warhammer gaming group in your area and at your friendly local game store.

Finally, this is the last episode that will go out before Gen Con. Conesy will be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday and if you would like to meet or catch a board game or something, email in to hosts@wiscodice.com and we will see if we can do something to hook up.
