Blood in the Sun 2015

Hey all, it’s that time of year for Blood in the Sun 5, or often referred to as BITS. Can’t believe I have been coming to this tournament now for 5 years. That’s 5 great years of Warhammer, fun and friends and this year was like others. All ready I have met a bunch of first time tournament goers, hooked up with old friends, watched some cool games and seen some really cool models.

Enjoy the pictures of this year’s event, either now or in the future. These are hosted through Google Photos so the link will redirect you away from the site. If you are watching these as I take them, I will be adding and syncing pictures I take with this folder.

Episode 63: All Over the Place

Episode 63

We are all over the place on this one with lots of things we want to talk about and just not enough time to get it all in. Yeah, we probably should have just gotten together sooner, but that bum Conesy had to have a little surgery in there that stalled things out for a bit.

In this episode, our hosts discuss Dreadball by Mantic Games, touch on Dropzone Commander by Hawk Wargames, catch up on some big Warhammer news, movies, campaign wrap up and even some listener questions at the end. Yeah, there’s a lot of stuff packed into this episode.

By the way, as promised, here is the link to the campaign that was just run here in Madison at Pegasus Games. Overall, as you’ll here, we all had a good time with it and it was laid out well to go with our pick up games on regular game night.

Gaming Spotlight: Cthulhu Wars

Cthulhu Wars is a mythos game based losely on the tales of H.P. Lovecraft. You know, those great short stories that he wrote. Ok, if you don’t know them, think gribbly horrifying monsters, mind bending creatures and general horror usually written pretty dryly. I will recommend though, that if you are new to the mythos that stories like Dunwhich Horror are a great place to start. Needless to say, I am a fan.

So, like a lot of folks that watched the kickstarter for this game, I was a little unsure of dropping the kind of money they wanted to buy the core game. I figured it was probably better just to hang out, wait for it to hit stores and see what people think. Not to mention, then at least some of the money goes to my FLGS which needs it as much as this company making this game needs it. So when it hit the shelves at Pegasus Games, after a few minutes of indicision and staring at the box it was mine. Ok, so I did read a few reviews and watch a couple of how to play videos before I bought it.

Game Review: Dropzone Commander

At Adepticon this year, I decided to go all in and purchased a VIG badge. Largely this was to get the extra swag, and boy was there extra swag to be had. One of the extra items was a United Colonies of Man (UCM) starter box for Dropzone Commander. After sitting there for a couple of months, I was just looking for something else to work on. Popped on a couple of YouTube videos of a couple of the free games I received at Adepticon and was intrigued by this game. What the heck, time to start putting it together!

What I realize, as I do with a lot of games, was that the best chance I was going to have to get other people to play is if I have enough stuff to run some intro games. Looking at the deals out there, it seemed best to pick up the 2 player starter set so I would also have a copy of the rules. As pictured above, this is the full contents of the 2 player starter, which is a lot of stuff including the terrain.

The long pause

Folks may have noticed a big pause around the holidays and we came back and did some shows. We have hit another big pause here. I want to assure our fans it isn’t because Brian and I have rage quit Warhammer. Rather, if you didn’t know I recently have been dealing with a lot of issues with my right hand and arm. Being right handed this has drastically impacted my ability to hobby. Couple this with the uncertainty of what is going on with the status of Warhammer Fantasy and it’s been hard to work up the go to do hobby on Fantasy models.

I will note, that both Brian and I have been playing a few games. Honestly, Brian more than myself lately but in the grand scheme, things just haven’t worked out where the two of us can get together.
