A Little Bit of Roar   Recently updated !

It’s Kickstart Monday again and this time it’s going to be a little loud. That’s right, we are talking big, beasty dinosaurs in the Kickstarter by Pandasaurus Games for Dinosaur World and Dinosaur Island: Rawr and Write. Dinosaur World seems to be a new take on the genetically engineered dinosaur theme park game. It looks like with this Kickstarter there is lots of opportunity to have plenty of bling to your game with dinosaur meeples, metal coins and more.

Sandy Petersen has a new game releasing on Kickstarter as well. In Return to Planet Apocalypse this is both trying to fund a board game expansion and a role playing game. Sandy Petersen games are well known for oversized miniatures (just remember Cthulhu Wars) and this project has plenty of those. Couple that with a chance to back and obtain a copy of the original Planet Apocalypse game in it’s second printing there is plenty to offer in this Kickstarter.

If you find these interesting, or think I missed a Kickstarter that you would like to hear more about please share your thoughts with us via the Facebook group or at our email.

Getting Started: Hobby Tools   Recently updated !

So you went out and bought your first model kit and now you need to know what you need to put it together huh? Well, I hope to clear up your confusion with this guide to helping you pick up the right tools so that you can assemble your first models. Once you have those first models assembled, then I will cover some of the additional tools that will help you take your models to the next level.

Hobby Update 9/23/2020   Recently updated !

I have been making progress on hobby. This week I have a few accomplishments. In the world of Bolt Action I painted up a German Stug III in a new color scheme for me. It was kind of an experiment and overall I am pretty happy with the result. I don’t know that I will do any more vehicles like it though.

Marvel: Crisis Protocol I finished up Ultron. I am looking forward to playing the All will be Metal scenario soon (well, after we play a few games and learn the rules!). Staying in the comic world for the Batman Miniature Game I painted up a couple of the thugs from the Back to Gotham two player starter. Thug 2 and Thug 6 are ready for the table.

Kickstart Monday 9/21/2020   Recently updated !

Well, I have a new game to talk about from Starling Games. You know, those guys that made a little game called Everdell. Flourish is a game of building a lovely garden where you will be drafting cards for between 1 and 7 players. The game duration is around 20 minutes per the Kickstarter page. On top of the cards, there are a number of cardboard tokens and standees that will become part of your game experience. The art of this game looks beautiful and this could be a great game to kick off a game day or be used as a filler between games.

For those of you who are into Dungeons and Dragons, here is a great Kickstarter by The Dice Dungeons Team that should help streamline your games. Condition Coins is exactly what it says it is. Little round metal discs that you can place around your miniatures bases that indicate the various status conditions that your characters might be affected by such as Poisoned, Paralyzed, and Stunned. This is a particularly great addition to your games if you utilize a lot of battle grids for combat scenarios. Never forget that a monster was stunned after resolving it’s attack or that a PC needed a save against poison. These tokens help with the visualization so that these status effects just don’t become overlooked.

Game Review: Spirit Island

Spirit Island is a game where you play as one of many different ancient primal spirits who watch over an island somewhere in the world. Your island is inhabited by natives, called Dahan, who can aid you. However, it’s come under attack….or at least is trying to be settled by those pesky settlers! Will you have what it takes to repel the invaders and keep your island safe?

Hobby Update 9/16/2020

Another week has gone by and I have been busy at the hobby table. I was able to have most of the day at the hobby table during DC Fandome which really helped the progress and motivation. I was able to complete two figures for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. I also was able to wrap up a couple of henchman for Batman Miniatures Game. Finally, I was able to complete a paint job on a German Stug III for Bolt Action. This last model is actually going up for sale on Ebay. I have the updated plastic Stug III unpainted which I like better and will update to the paint schema of my new German army when I get to it.

Kickstart Monday – 9/14/2020

I have a couple of new Kickstarters that I hope you guys want to check out. Let’s start with Asian Adventures which will get those of you excited with 3D printers. This auction will set you up with some great Asian terrain pieces that would be great for a Bushido game or any game featuring Far East adventures or battles.

Sticking on 3D printing for our second one. This time is some great fantasy cottages. Mystic Realm’s cottage looks like the kind of little cottage that might come out of a Disney film or your favorite Grimm fairy tale. I think these work also for the rustic cottage in a more modern rural setting as well. Tons of versatility with these.

Hobby Incoming!!!

Welcome to Marvel at my Hobby. Hopefully a weekly thing I am going to try to add to put up some pictures of all of the models I have been working on and finished over the past week or so. This week, let’s take a look at all of the Marvel: Crisis Protocol figures I have finished up to this point!

Kickstart Monday – 9/7/2020

This started as a thing that I was doing on our Facebook Group WiscoDice, but I am moving to the blog so it’s a little easier to read and follow. The idea, every Monday I would find two Kickstarter projects that I am interested in, or that I think our fans would be interested in and provide a little background.

So let’s first dive into the Wyrmwood Modular Gaming Table Kickstarter. If you haven’t heard of Wyrmwood before, these guys build amazing tables. It might be a 9 month wait to receive your table, but the quality is on the top end of the market for board game tables. This Kickstarter will set you up with their most flexible table option, and who doesn’t want an amazing table. Their pledge levels are a bit confusing, and right now you are going to have to wait until 2022 to get your table, but check it out!

Mercardo de Lisboa is a board game Kickstarter by Eagle Games with big name designers Julián Pombo and Vital Lacerda. Be ready for a a game that has some real heft to it, but is coming in a smaller package. At $34 for the English version, plus shipping, it’s one of the less expensive board game Kickstarters that you will find me recommending.

Game Review: Quacks of Quedlinburg

Quacks of Quedlinburg is a game that has nothing to do with ducks, as the name might make you think! Rather you take on the role of a doctor who throws potions of random things together and sells them for money. The better a quack you are, the greater chance you can make a great potion that scores you not only points, but plenty of cash to buy even better ingredients! Just be careful, or your pot will explode and then you have to make due with whatever goo was left in the pot.
