Lightening Strikes: Conesy’s Age Of Sigmar Stormcast Eternals

More hobby work is up. Local store Pegasus Games ran a recent 1500 point Age of Sigmar tourney and this, with help from Combat Phase Kenny Lull who keeps talking to me about AoS, motivated me to build and increase my fledgling Age of Sigmar force. The tournament was a blast and I managed to win 2 games and lose my third to Kenny actually….

Starting Age of Sigmar

So, getting back into this game after not playing basically for a year was a bit tricky. When this game first game out, it was new and there wasn’t much to the battleplans or any kind of really system for pick up games or listing that you could do with the game. One General’s Handbook later and wow, this game has changed!!! Much the better as well. However, that being said, it’s also kind of intimidating to know what to buy and the price tag for Games-Workshop models is pretty brutal which made me feel it was just that much more critical to try to find the right models and not over spend too much getting into this tournament. After all, getting to 1500 points meant I needed to spend at least $200 US dollars. Not a small amount of money.

For the most part, the General’s Handbook isn’t a bad place to start. I think for the most part, as the warscrolls are free at the GW site you can put together a list. However, to go competitive was tough. I did struggle to find rules for Warscroll Batallions though as they are scattered around a few supplements. Even worse, there seems to be a few battalions that are in print that don’t have points available. Frustrating!!! Word of advise for the Stormcast anyways…ignore these and just go for 1500 points.

I found that if you pick up the following sets you start to fill things out nicely:

  • Age of Sigmar 2 player starter
  • Getting Started: Stormcast Eternals Box
  • Box of Judicators (10 model box)
  • Dracothian Gaurd Box (Built as Fulminators)
  • Knight Heraldar
  • Lord Celestant

From there, you can build pretty much the way you want to fill out the 1500 points and minimize the purchases. I would have liked to have had a few of those purchases pointed out a little earlier myself because the number of options out there made things a little bit of an uphill battle with my short time to get ready for this event. Overall though, I am super happy with my performance in that event and look forward to expanding my forces a bit to something that I can play comfortably at the 2000 point mark sometime soon.
