Kickstart Monday: Point City + Deep Dive and The Hunt

Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Indigogo to find projects that interest us.

Point City + Deep Dive

Our first project of note this week is the Kickstarter for Point City and Deep dive from Flatout Games.

Point City + Deep Dive

Point city is a follow up to the quick card drafting  game Point Salad. Point city looks to expand upon the mechanics of point salad by including card drafting and engine building mechanics. 1 to 4 Players will create a unique city from 150 different building cards. Players try to find the right combos of resources and buildings including special civic buildings to maximize their scoring. Point city looks like it would be a great alternative to Point Salad for someone who is looking for a slightly heavier but still quick game.

This Kickstarter campaign also includes Deep Dive, a push-your-luck game for up to 6 players. Deep dive looks to be a light fun game where you dive deeper and deeper into the ocean with your group of penguins hope for greater rewards the deeper you go. But you must be wary of the various predators that looking to snack on penguins that dive too deep. If one or both of these games catches your interest follow our link to the Kickstarter project before April 14th.

The Hunt

Our second project for the week is The Hunt a Gamefound project from Salt and Pepper Games.

The Hunt

The Hunt is a 2 player asymmetrical duel set in 1939 between one player playing as the British Royal Navy and another taking the role of the German Kriegsmarine. The German player must steathfully sink 5 freight ships while the British player seeks to hunt the German Admiral for a final battle.

The games plays out on a hex grid and with tactical card play using cards either for their special event or for action points to take actions like movement,  search and attack or other special actions that differ between each side. The game promises tense action in a 20-45 minute time span and seems like it would play out as a bit of a cat and mouse game with the Germans trying their best to avoid a direct battle while still targeting the British freight ships. I quite like the artwork on display here too as it really helps the theme of the game come forward. This definitely looks like an interesting title for anyone looking for a 2 player war game. Head over to the Gamefound project page for The Hunt, before April 3d if you are looking to back it.

Kickstart Monday: GooeyCube: Blood for the Khan and From the Moon

Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Indigogo to find projects that interest us.

Blood for the Kahn

Our first project this week is the newest offering from the good folks at GooeyCube. The Kickstarter features the Blood for the Khan adventure module and the Mournwood Campaign guide where the adventure takes place.

GooeyCube: Blood for the Kahn

The Blood for the Kahn adventure sends the players on a quest for an ancient object called the Bloodcrystal and face a mysterious figure known as “The Khan”. The adventure takes place in a dark and treacherous forest called the Mournwood which is sure to be filled with monsters and mysteries to test the party’s mettle.

At WiscoDice, we have been very impressed with the quality of the GooeyCube adventures and campaigns, and this project looks to be no different. Included in the Blood for the Kahn adventure are fantastic artwork and handouts including high quality NPC portraits. Full color illustrated regional maps and battle maps are in the box not to mention an assortment of magic and special item cards. The Mournwood campaign guide book expands the work even further with history, lore, monsters, NPCs, and even more artwork and handouts. worth noting that the kickstart has both digital and physical reward options. Ultimately, I think GooeyCube really goes the extra mile to provide a Dungeon Master (DM) with an excellent set of tools to run an exciting game and with

If you are a DM looking for a new adventure or a new campaign setting to dazzle your characters, I would highly recommend checking out the Blood for the Kahn Kickstarter or any other products in the GooeyCube line. To get your hands on this one make sure to back the Kickstarter by March 25th.

From the Moon

Our second project this week is From the Moon a Kickstarter campaign from publisher La Boîte de Jeu.

From the Moon

From the Moon is a sci-fi themed worker placement game where players must develop a moon base and a team of astronauts as one of several asymmetrical factions. The game also boasts a unique “worker crafting” mechanic where you will be customizing each of one of your 3 moon rover miniatures by placing a set of astronaut minis inside of it. With your rovers and astronauts gathering the resources you need you’ll be able to expand and improve your moon base with greenhouses and laboratories. You will also be contributing to the construction and improvement of huge colony ships and their missions which is an important source of victory points.

I like the design of the game components especially the upgradable player boards which look to provide lots of different options for a strategy. The “worker crafting” mechanic is definitely intriguing and the models for the rover and astronaut miniatures look quite nice. If you are ready to strap on your spacesuit and get to work head on over to the Kickstarter page, the campaign will be ending March 23rd.

Kickstart Monday: Scholars of the South Tigris and Star Tycoon

Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Indigogo to find projects that interest us.

Scholars of the South Tigris

First up this week we have the next entry in the South Tigris series of game from Garphill games.

Scholars of the South Tigris

Scholars of the South Tigris is a bag building and dice placement game set in medieval Baghdad. Players will influences powerful guilds, build their knowledge in the sciences on 6 unique resource tracks and translate scientific manuscripts for the Caliph. There is an engine building aspect to the game as well that lets you find your own path to victory. The game plays up to four players and also features a solo mode with 4 levels of difficulty.

The Kickstarter campaign is already more than fully funded so if you are a fan of other Garphill games this is likely a safe bet. You will need to pledge by  March 15th to get in on this one.

Star Tycoon

Our other game this week is the Kickstarter for Star Tycoon, by Warp Core Games, an interstellar engine building game for 1 to 6 players.

Star Tycoon

Players in Star Tycoon will take the roll of a corporation participating in the galactic exchange of trade goods which boasts a player-driven resource market.

Players will also establish developments on planets build megastructures and maybe break the law by making illegal goods. I’m impressed so far with the art and design on display in Start Tycoon. The player count is also a plus there are not too many games that fill the 5-6 player niche. If you are eager to start taking over the galactic market Star Tycoon might be one to keep an eye on. The Kickstarter ends March 30th 2023.

The Search for Lost Species

We’ve got 2 Kickstarter projects to share with you this week so let’s KICK it off with The Search for Lost Species from Renegade Games.

The Search for Lost Species

The Search for the Lost Species is the follow up to the excellent logic and deduction game Search for Planet X.  If you are looking to use your deduction skills in a game with a theme little closer to home, Search for the Lost Species may be worth a look.

Players use surveys by foot and boat camera traps and other means to tease out sighting of the missing species then use logic and deduction to record their findings. Like Search for Planet X the game uses an app to vary the setup of the game and let players find out if their deductions are correct.

The game also bills itself as an eco-friendly game and will be produced with eco-conscious methods with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of the of the game. The campaign will be wrapping up on March 2nd .

Alynthia

Next up is Alynthia a fantasy themed dragon horde defense game.

Alynthia

In either cooperative or competitive modes players take the role of a powerful guild charged with defending the land against hordes of dragons bent on destruction. Players expand their presence on the hex tile landscape upgrading their outposts and gathering resources.  They also develop a personal skill tree to customize their abilities all while fending off dragons that spawn from nests each round. There seems to be a bit of a pandemic feel to some of the game as dragons sent out from their nests that can cause chain reactions creating even larger hordes which promises some fun tension.

No matter if you want to ally with your friends or go head to head against them, there will be plenty of dragons to fend off for everyone in Alynthia from Xplody Games. Check out the campaign on Kickstarter which will run through March 2nd.
