Board Game Brunch this week featured members of the WiscoDice crew playing and eating in the slammer. No, we didn’t really get locked up. Instead we played Lock Up by Thunderworks Games and ate Jailhouse Rice from South Your Mouth.

The Game…Lockup: A Roll Player Tale

In Lockup: A Roll Player Tale, each player is managing a gang of minions and trying to stay under the guards radar. This worker-placement game has you trying to out bid your opponents by placing the strongest crews around the jail. Minion placement is crucial to gain resources, hire crew and build items.

The highest reputation at the end of the game wins. For us that was Ben and his Bugbears crew. The bugbears held the most power throughout the game. So Justin and his crew of Goblins and my crew of insectoids were soundly shown their place in this jail.

The Food…Jailhouse Rice

Searching for recipes one day, I came upon Jailhouse Rice on South Your Mouth. I knew we had to pair it with Lockup. How could we not?

Not only was this a great pairing because of the name, but it was a great recipe to try that is both budget and time friendly. With ingredients we normally have on hand and minimal prep, Jailhouse Rice would make a good weeknight dinner when you’re rushing from one activity to the next. Plus it feeds an army so leftovers are almost guaranteed.

And Beyond…
