Oktoberfest Food and Game

Oktoberfest may be cancelled for 2021 but we still are celebrating here at WiscoDice. Today’s Board Game Brunch match-up is Hellertau with some traditional Oktoberfest foods.

The Game…Hallertau

Hallertau by Uwe Rosenberg and published by Lookout Games. Hallertau is a strategy game with some fun mechanics working together. You have to balance progressive, two-field rotation systems, cards that need precise timing, and sheep that have a set life-span.

This is definitely not a beginner game and even after several play throughs, we are still learning new strategies and figuring out the timing of actions. Read Consey’s full review of the game here: https://wiscodice.com/hallertau-uwes-latest-heavy-gaming-masterpiece/

For this week’s game, Consey’s came out the clear winner. Having been a significant time since our last play, we had both forgotten on where to focus for big points and struggled with our strategies that were a bit too narrowly focused. But still a fun way to start off our Sunday!

The Food…Oans, zwoa, drei, g’suffa!

Giant pretzels, beer cheese dip, bratwurst and of course Oktoberfest Beer! Homemade pretzels are so much simpler than they look. Hardest part is making the twists look correct. You must have something to dip these soft pretzels in, why not combine beer, cheese, and mustard and make a delicious Beer Cheese Dip. Rounding out this Oktoberfest inspired meal are grilled bratwurst with sauerkraut and some Central Waters Oktoberfest and Wisconsin Brewing Oktoberfest beers!
