Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter and Gamefound to find projects that interest us. This week’s picks are:

Hollow Pact

Our first game this week is Hollow Pact on Kickstarter from Studio Midhall.

Hollow Pact is a dark fantasy game for 1 to 4 players where you either play a Scoundrel bound by a cursed pact or as the Beast that is relentlessly hunting the Scoundrels to recover the mysterious Cargo that the Scoundrels stole. As a Scoundrel your goal is avoid the Beast and escape an ever changing ruined city with your precious Cargo. Only one of the Scoundrels carry the Real Cargo while the rest carry Decoys.

The game is semi-cooperative so the Scoundrels can coordinate against the Beast together but each Scoundrel has their own hidden agendas and ultimately your chance to win as a Scoundrel depends on your agenda. You may be required to deceive and ultimately betray your fellow scoundrels to secure a win. A Scoundrel can win with a Legendary Feat  by escaping with the Real Cargo and completing both hidden agendas, or with a lesser Bitter Survival victory by escaping without the Real Cargo through their preferred route.

The Beast player stalks the streets of the city hunting the Scoundrels and plaguing them with curses. The Beast wins with Legendary Revenge by reclaiming the Real Cargo or with Bitter Aftermath, when the Real Cargo Escapes but 1 Scoundrel Dies. 

Hollow Pact is available now on Kickstarter at the following pledge levels:

  • Standard Pledge – $78 – Standard Box edition of Hollow Pact
  • Exclusive Pledge – $96 – Hollow Pact in the Kickstarter-exclusive bigger Nightmare Box plus unique Cargo miniatures, insane Scoundrel miniatures the community expansion and digital story.
  • Gameplay Pledge – $168 – Hollow Pact in the Kickstarter-exclusive bigger Nightmare Box plus acrylic tokens, metal stress tokens, custom sleeves, Esmeria character pack and neoprene mats.
  • Nightmare All in Pledge – $224 – Hollow Pact in the Kickstarter-exclusive bigger Nightmare Box and everything in the Gameplay Pledge plut an artbook, a premium box insert, a collector’s diorama miniature and all stretch goals.

Sprites and Sprouts

Our second game of the week is Sprites and Sprouts on Kickstarter from Open Owl Studios.

Sprites and Sprouts is a cozy family farming game for 1 to 5 players where you play as helpful Sprites magically assisting a farmer in growing and harvesting their crops. The Farmer grows crops on the crop board with crop tiles on a 4 x 4 grid.  The Farmer will harvest crops each round but the area he harvests from is a secret.

You’ll have to do your best to guess where the Farmer will harvest. Each turn you will move your sprite meeple to a new action on your personal player board. You can Plant to add new crop tiles to the shared crop board, Tend to turn crop tiles over to their tended side to get them ready to harvest, Prep to draw new crop challenge cards, or use Magic to use one the other actions with a special bonus.

After taking your action you will need to place a worker on a crop tile or on the edge of the crop area to try to guess which crop the farmer will harvest. Then you will be able to score any crop challenge cards that you were able to match the pattern for on the crop board, for example scoring for each strawberry in a diagonal line on the crop board.

In addition to scoring for your challenge cards you will earn points for correctly guessing the right patch that the Farmer harvests when it is revealed or if you have guessed the right row or column he harvests from. At the end of the day you will also gain skills to expand your abilities when taking actions on your player board. After 3 or 4 days depending on player count, the lucky Sprite with the most points is the winner!

Sprites and Sprout is available on Kickstarter at the following pledge levels:

  • Standard Pledge – $49 – The Sprites and Sprouts retail version
  • Deluxe Pledge – $79 – Sprites and Sprout Kickstarter exclusive deluxe edition, Fun Gus expansion and any unlocked stretch goals.
  • Premium Pledge – $99 – The deluxe edition of the game plus the Fun Gus expansion and Magical Miniatures addon
  • Collector’s Pledge – $207 – The deluxe edition, Fun Gus expansion, Magical Miniatures, Neoprene game mat, enamel pink pack, a Ponk plushy, coloring book, card pack and stationary set.

If you want to harvest a copy of Sprites and Sprouts you’ll need to plant a pledge on Kickstarter before June 2, 2025, when the campaign ends.
