Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter and Gamefound to find projects that interest us. This week we have:

Moon Bunny

The first game we are looking at this week is Moon Bunny on Kickstarter from Hot Banana Games. Moon Bunny is a game for 1 to 4 players inspired by Asian folklore and the Moon Festival.

In the game you will be playing as a cute bunny alchemist that hops across a grid of tiles on a lunar landscape. You will use two bunny assistants, one that can hop onto 3 tiles on the grid and one that can dash any number spaces in a single direction. As you move your bunny you will collect Asian herbs and ingredients such as ginseng, lotus flower, and goji berries into your personal workshop.

You will also collect elixir recipe tiles which you will attempt to complete by surrounding the recipe with herb tiles and having the right number and combination of herbs in your workshop. Some tiles will also grant you special mooncake tokens that will earn you additional points or grant special actions. At the end of the game you will score your completed recipes to see who has crafted the best elixirs and will become the master bunny alchemist.

Moon Bunny is available right now on Kickstarter at the following pledge levels:

  • Moon Bunny Standard Edition – $41 – includes the “pre-stretched” retail version of the game
  • Moon Bunny Collector’s Edition – $63 – includes acrylic tiles and standees, squishy mooncakes, and upgraded player boards.

If you are looking for a cute and cozy bunny-based alchemy game I suggest you hop on over to the Moon Bunny Kickstarter page before the project ends on September 25, 2024.

Quest Kids: Realms of the Kingdom

For our second game this week we’ve got something geared toward a younger audience with Quest Kids: Realms of the Kingdom from Treasure Falls Games on Kickstarter. Quest Kids: Realms of the Kingdom is a new expansion for the critically acclaimed original game The Quest Kids that was released in 2021. Quest Kids is a 2 to 5 player fantasy dungeon crawl for ages 5 and up.

Quest Kids: Realms of the Kingdom is a new expansion for the critically acclaimed original game The Quest Kids that was released in 2021. Quest Kids is a 2 to 5 player fantasy dungeon crawl for ages 5 and up. Each player will step into the shoes of a brave young hero like Noah the Wily Warrior and Skylar the Powerful Viking.

The players will explore a dungeon made from different color dungeon tiles; green tiles that are always good, gray tiles that sometimes have and enemy and red tiles that are the most risky but also the most rewarding! As you explore the dungeon you will collect powers and treasures and use your abilities to hopefully scare off any monsters you encounter.

The game is semi-cooperative but each player it still looking to score the most points to win. You will have personal quest cards that earn you points if you complete them and you will also gain points from treasures and special gems you find. The Quest Kid who has collected the most stars during the adventure will win! Quest Kids: Realms of the Kingdom brings some new content to Quest Kids.

The expansion introduces Mason the Wise Dwarf as a new character who is central to the story of the expansion. Mason’s home of Stonedale is beset by orcs and it is up to the Quest Kids to gather four magical “Tolk Gems” by traveling through portals to the realms of dragons, pirates and magical creatures where they are hidden. If all for gems can be found the Quest Kids will be able to scare off the orcs and save Stonedale.

There are quite a few pledge levels for this campaign as it features a reprint of the base game and two other expansions but here are they key ones:

  • Realms of the Kingdom Expansion – $29 – Just the Realms of the Kingdom Expansion with unlocked stretch goals. The Quest Kids base game is required to play
  • Base Game + Realms of the Kingdom – $72 – The Quest Kids base game and the Realms of the Kingdom expansion.
  • The Quest Kids + All Expansions – $119 – The Quest Kids base game, Realms of the Kingdom, Big Bads of Tolk’s Cave, and The Trials of Tolk the Wise expansions.

If you are a parent of younger children looking to get your kids into this wonderful hobby at an early age I recommend you check out the Quest Kids: Realms of the Kingdom Kickstarter campaign. It will run until September 18, 2024, so you have until then to make a pledge.
