Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter and Gamefound to find projects that interest us. This week’s picks include:

Read on to find out why these made the cut…

Project L

Our first game this week is Project L from Boardcubator on Kickstarter.

There are actually two games on offer from the Project L “universe” in this campaign. The first is Project L,  an engine building game for 1 to 6 players that uses tactile colorful polyomino tiles. In Project L you will complete puzzles in the form of double layer tiles that have a space cut out for you to place your collection of Tetris shape tiles.

Each puzzle is worth a number of points based on the number of tiles it takes to complete and its complexity. Completing a puzzle earns you points as well as new pieces to use to complete further puzzles. Your engine grows as you gain better and plugger pieces allowing you to complete higher point puzzles.

Square One is the other game available in this campaign. In this 1 to 6 player game, you will start the game with a small set of single square acrylic tiles which represent different polyomino shapes. Your aim is to complete “sequence” cards which require you place certain shapes in the right order. You can also combine or split your pieces to build new polyomino shapes so you can complete new and more valuable sequence cards.

Both of these games are quick playing and easy to learn and would be a good fit for families and less hardcore board gamers. Let’s take a look at the available pledge options:

  • Project L: Collectors All-in – $97 – Includes Project L and every expansion ever made for it in a single storage box.
  • Square One: Collectors All-in – $97 – One large box and a storage system for Square One and every expansion that has been published for it.
  • Collectors All-in Bundle – $147 – all content from both the Project L and Square One Collectors All-in pledges.

Don’t take too long to puzzle it over, you’ll need to get your pledge in for Project L before the Kickstarter ends on May 14, 2025.

Propagation Station

Our second pick of the week is Propagation Station from Chain Assembly on Kickstarter.

Propagation Station is a cozy game for 2 to 4 players that is all about growing house plants. This is an auction and tableau building game so you will be bidding on plants to add to your collection in a personal tableau to create the best plant propagation system you can.

Propagation Station uses a unique auction system where you won’t know exactly what players are bidding on and the winning bidder pays out to the losers. As you gain plants and equipment from auctions you will gain new abilities from your cards in your tableau. You can expand your tableau by purchasing grow-lights so you can pot more plants.

You will need to keep your plants healthy and growing because over time they can accumulate pests which can end up destroying plants that aren’t healthy enough. Once a player has purchased their sixth grow-light the game end is triggered and the player with the most successful station is the winner.

Let’s take a look at the pledge options for this campaign:

  • Propagation Station – $40 – Propagation Station at a 20% discount from the retail MSRP
  • Propagation Station Deluxe – $64 – includes the base game an a deluxe upgrade kit with silk screened wooden tokens and poker chip bidding tokens
  • Propagation Station Deluxe + Expansions – $90 – the deluxe version plus the House Plant Hermit and Flora Obscura expansions

Propagation Station is in season now on Kickstarter so get your pledge in before May 19, 2025, when the campaign ends,
