Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter and Gamefound to find projects that interest us. Up this week are:
Read on for what caught our eye about these games….
Revenant
The first game we are looking at this week is Revenant from Mindclash Games on Kickstarter.
Revenant is a new standalone worker placement game set in the universe of Voidfall, the space themed euro game from 2023. In Revenant 1 to 4 players play as rival admirals escorting the remnants of the Novarchon empire through space. The fleet is led by the flagship The Revenant and is under constant threat from the dreaded Voidborn, a mysterious and chaotic interdimensional entity. Players will send members of their crew to take actions on the different ships in the fleet like fighters, frigates, dropships and arkships.
Each ship in the fleet belongs to one of the seven great houses of the empire and each time you assign a crew member you will gain influence with that particular house. Your influence with the houses will be important for your endgame score but will depend on how many ships of that house remain in the fleet.
Each turn you will also face an attack from the Voidborn who will damage and destroy ships impacting the power of each house in the fleet. To survive and become the most influential admiral you’ll need to upgrade your crew and your ships with new more powerful abilities and work to jump The Revenant to new sectors of space to escape the Voidborn and their corruption.
Let’s take a look at some of the rewards available in this campaign:
- Captain Edition – $83 – Includes the Revenant core game, Reason and Faith expansion, all unlocked gameplay content and component upgrades and a modular tray system.
- Admiral Edition – $124 – Includes everything from the Captain Edition, plus miniatures for the ships and other components.
If you want to overcome the Voidborn you’ll need to act quickly and get your pledge in before the Revenant Kickstarter campaign ends on December 10, 2024.
Knitting Circle
In our next game you will find yourself in a much cozier place among kittens and balls of yarn. We’re taking a look at Knitting Circle from Flatout Games on Kickstarter. Knitting Circle is the next game from the publishers of Calico, and Cascadia and features the artwork of Beth Sobel.
In the game 1 to 4 players will craft colorful and cozy garments attempting to be the most prolific knitter in the circle. Each round you will draft yarn tiles to add to your knitting projects (sweaters, scarfs, socks etc.) Choosing the right colors and patterns for your garments is important as you will try to accomplish specific goals on your projects to earn extra points. For example you might want to create a striped pattern of alternating colors, or you might need to include both green and blue yarn in your garment.
You’ll need to be careful though if your garment doesn’t follow any sort of pattern you’ll get an “ugly garment” token which will cost you some end game points. You can also introduce Request cards as public goals to compete for additional points. In the end the knitter who crafted the most pleasing garments will be the champion of this cute and cozy competition.
Knitting circle is available now on Kickstarter for just $29. This will get you the Kickstarter edition of the game which includes a promo pack of 18 additional Request cards, and a mini expansion for Knitting Circle’s sister game Calico. Just be sure to make your pledge for Knitting Circle before the campaign ends on December 13, 2024.
