Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter and Gamefound to find projects that interest us.

There are certainly some exciting projects out in crowdfunding land. Let’s take a look at a couple of games that we think you should check out.

So, You’ve Been Cursed

Our first game this week is So, You’ve Been Cursed from LudiCreations on Kickstarter.

So, You’ve Been Cursed comes from designer Scott Almes and is a follow up to the 2022 game So, You’ve Been Eaten. So, You’ve Been Cursed is a game for 0 to 2 players featuring asymmetrical roles and gameplay.

In a two player game one player is a Wizard who has been terribly cursed and who must gather ingredients and coins and cast spells to find a cure for the curse before it’s too late. The second player plays a Monster that is driven to eat villagers and sheep steadily growing in power until it can transform into a legendary creature.

In a single player game the player can choose to play the Wizard against the automated Rabid Monster or act as the Monster playing against an automated Possessed Wizard. The game also features a “zero player” mode where both the Monster and the Wizard can be played against each other using their respective automated decks of action cards.

The Monster and the Wizard are at direct odds with each other and interestingly both roles share the same token. Actions taken by the Wizard will directly affect what the Monster can do on their turn and vice versa. As each player has their own unique set of actions and distinct goals this seems like it can lead to dynamic and tense gameplay.

Ultimately only the Wizard or Monster will succeed though and either the curse will advance to its final stage resulting in a Monster victory or the Wizard will manage to find a cure and end the curse.

Let’s take a look at the pledges available for this campaign:

  • Basic Edition – $29 – The “no frills” pledge. Comes with the retail edition of the games
  • Premium Edition – $39 – Includes upgraded screen printed wooden components
  • Collector Edition – $49 – Included screen printed components, 3 layer player boards, metal coins, tuckboxes and custom acrylic energy tokens
  • Bundle – $98 – Collectors editions of both So, You’ve Been Cursed and So , You’ve Been Eaten.

The Kickstarter campaign for So, You’ve Been Cursed ends on August 29, 2024, so get your pledge in before then.

The Cats of Mont Saint-Michel

Our second game this week is The Cats of Mont Saint-Michel from Raybox Games on Gamefound.

The Cats of Mont Saint-Michel is a 1 to 4 player narrative campaign game featuring heroic cats and set in revolutionary France. You will progress in a series of adventures and scenarios that you play on maps in the spiral bound Scenario Book.

Your primary foe is the Crimson Cardinal Rat and his army of vermin. As you play through the branching campaign you will use the streamlined Paths Unknown D12 system and use action points to Move, Investigate, Search and Attack. You will use your character’s special skills in and out of combat and upgrade those skills as you advance your character through your adventures.

The island monastery of Mont Saint-Michel is also filled with items and loot to help you if you take the time to search for loot and investigate clues. All your choices and actions will drive the branching campaign and determine if you have what it takes to defeat the Crimson Cardinal and his army of plague rats and roaches.

Let’s dive into some of the main pledge tiers available:

  • The Cool Cat Pledge – $49.95 – The base game. Includes everything you need to play.
  • The Lion’s Share Pledge – $59.95 – Includes the Cat Nip accessories pack, with double layered player dashboards, 8 character tiles and wooden tokens.
  • The Purrfection Pledge – $139 – The Deluxe version of the game with Hero and Vermin miniatures, the Cat Nip accessory pack and a bonus storage box
