Kickstart Monday: Are you a Young Witch or a Mad King?

Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Indigogo to find projects that interest us.

Witchbound

Witchbound is a unique 1-2 player storytelling campaign game set in a magical world. As a young witch you will explore the island of Coven Cove through a series of scenes which have multiple points of interaction that lead to a story path in a choose your own adventure style narrative. You might be interacting with townsfolk in a village or venturing into dangerous dungeons to face challenging encounters.

Witchbound – Gamefound

The game boasts a Dynamic NPC (non-player character) system that can make each interaction with an NPC unique and put you down a different story path There is also crafting and enchanting to let you make powerful potions or magical items to help you on your journey

The art and components in Witchbound are lovely and give a very cozy, lighthearted feel to the game which seems perfect for a relaxed solo or two player playthrough. If you are looking for a delightfully witchy storytelling adventure head over to Gamefound and before the campaign ends on February 23rd, 2023.

Blueprints of Mad King Ludwig

Our next game this week is the Kickstarter for Blueprints of Mad King Ludwig from Bezier Games.

The Blueprints of Mad King Ludwig brings the Castles of Mad King Ludwig experience into a flip and write format. In the game you will use colored pencils to add a variety of strangely shaped rooms onto the floor plan of your castle while earning bonus cards and attempting to fulfill the king’s royal decrees.

Blueprints of Mad King Ludiwig – Kickstarter

The base version is available for $40 USD and a deluxe version for $70 USD that has some extra deluxified and components and a gametrayz insert. We are big fans of the Mad King Ludwig family of games and the flip and write genre feels like a natural fit for this series. We will be keeping an eye on this one. The Kickstarter for Blueprints of Mad King Ludwig runs through March 7th, 2023.

Kickstart Monday: Ancient Blood Rises with Carrara

Welcome to Kickstart Monday!!!! Happy holidays everyone. As the year winds down, I am still taking the time to scrub Gamefound, Kickstarter, and other crowdfunding platforms for tabletop gaming projects that I think you might be interested in. This week we have two board game projects that really have me intrigued. Let’s dive into them!

As an FYI, I will be taking next week off on Kickstart Monday. We’ll be back in the first week in January with new projects to recommend for you!

Ancient Blood – The Order of Vampire Hunters

Ancient Blood – The Order of Vampire Hunters is from Dark Gate Games. This is the third game by Dark Gate Games. All of their games feature darker tones. While this is their first venture on Gamefound, their other projects have been previously on Kickstarter.

In the game, you will play as a vampire hunter cooperatively with the other players against the game. Like many of these games, you can play it stand-alone, solo, or even as a campaign. Each session you will choose a story that dictates the scenario. There will be local people for you to interact with. These people may provide aid, narrative direction, or other things to you. You will encounter various creatures and villains that you will have to overcome. Ultimately leading to the completion (or failure) of the story’s goal.

If you like campaign-driven narrative games where you and your friends take on the world then you may want to check out Ancient Blood. This game certainly features a different feel to the adventure board game than the traditional Sci-Fi or Fantasy dungeon crawl games that often dominate this space.

The Palaces of Carrara 2nd Edition

The Palaces of Carrara 2nd Edition from Game Brewer is bringing back this Euro-style game for updated printing. For those of you who have not heard of this game before the theme is that you build buildings during the Renaissance in Italy. You will do this by manipulating the price of marble so that you can purchase materials inexpensively. You can then use that marble to construct buildings. Of course, reducing the price of marble helps the other players as well. You need to carefully balance the market to produce what you need while keeping it expensive enough to slow your opponents.

In this second printing, they are providing a completely revised and updated ruleset. On top of that, the game will feature new advanced play options. Finally, they are offering a deluxe version as a Gamefound exclusive. Plenty to offer if you are interested, but already own Carrara.

If you like a crunchy, economic, euro game that will make your brain work then you should definitely check out The Palaces of Carrara.
