Kickstart Monday: Teotihuacan: Deluxe Master Set and Zombicide: White Death

Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Indigogo to find projects that interest us.

Teotihuacan: City of the Gods Deluxe Master Set

First up this week is Teotihuacan: City of the Gods Deluxe Master Set from Board and Dice. Teotihuacan was originally released in 2018 but is back again in a new deluxified form. Teotihuacan is one of the hit Eurogames from the “T-series” by designer David Tascini and is a favorite here at WiscoDice as well.

In Teotihuacan players move worker dice that grow in strength as they move along a rondel that is the city of Teotihuacan itself. Players will gather needed resources, make technological advancements, ascend the steps of the temples to the gods, and build and decorate the pyramid at the center of the city.

The deluxe master set includes a number of aesthetic enhancements to this already great game:

  • Larger custom dice
  • Heat printed resource tokens
  • Heat printed Temple token
  • Dual Layer player boards
  • Alternate board art
  • Custom resource bags
  • Promos
  • Player Mats
  • 5th Player expansion

(Note that not all upgrades are available at all pledge levels)

If you were sitting on the fence for Teotihuacan, now is the time to act you’ve got until May 12 to back this beautiful upgrade to an awesome game.

Zombicide: White Death

Secondly this week we have Zombicide: White Death from CMON, the next entry in the insanely popular Zombicide series of games.

Zombicide: White Death is a sequel to Black Plague and Green Horde and it takes place in a medieval fantasy setting. Players must defend the frozen city of Wintergrad whether it be from the tops of the stone battlements or on the field of battle. This iteration of Zombicide looks to have primarily an eastern theme. Players may be taking on the role of a samurai or eastern warriors or wizards. The zombies and abominations borrow from eastern mythology as well such as the Kumihimo abomination which appears to be Zombicide’s version of a nine-tailed fox, the Qilin abomination, a Hooven chimerical kind of dragon-horse from Chinese mythology and the intimidating multi-armed Asura abomination, a demon from Indian myths. As it stands the game looks to have at least 40 survivor characters to play and 13 unique abominations. If that’s not enough for you there are of course a huge number of add-ons you can include in your pledge, almost all of which include beautiful and intricately detailed miniatures.

If you are ready to stand your ground against the white death, visit the Kickstarter page before Apr 26 to make your pledge.

Kickstart Monday: Die of the Dead and Cthulhu

Welcome to Kickstart Monday!!!! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects in the tabletop gaming industry. I scour over platforms like Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Indigogo to find projects that interest me. People would ask me what I think is worth backing since I was providing these recommendations already. So why not share my thoughts with a weekly blog about projects that interest me?

Stay informed when new Kickstart Monday projects come out by following us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and following the #KickstartMonday hashtag.

It’s Halloween and Crowdfunding is full of spooky, creepy, and otherwise heavily themed games for this time of the year. I didn’t have to look to hard to find two great projects that I thought are worth real consideration into supporting.

Die of the Dead: Xolo Expansion

Die of the Dead: Xolo Expansion & Ofrenda Variant from Radical 8 Games provides players with expanded content for the base game and another opportunity to get the original game. We spoke with Mark, the publisher, from Radical 8 Games about this game in Episode 99. Indeed, Justin had picked up this game on the initial Kickstarter run as well before the interview.

With a unique theme around the Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Mexican holiday. The game is presented with plenty of dice which you will, through gameplay, guide back to the land of the living from their caskets, ascending a stair, and finally returning.

If there is one reason to back this game, it’s for the amazing art and visual table presence. We find it a very interesting game and with the addition of a Xolo (dog) meeple to the game how could you not want a copy?

If dice games with player interaction, some luck, and amazing artwork are all things that interest you in a game then you should check this project out.

Cthulu: Death May Die – Fear of the Unknown

Cthulhu: Death May Die – Fear of the Unknown from CMON is the latest entry into the Cthulhu: Death May Die franchise. Fear of the Unknown features a new season in the franchise due to upgraded rules for what is hoped to be a more streamlined and fun experience. There are also 6 new episodes in the box with 2 new Elder boxes that will bring additional challenges to players.

This is a standalone entry into the franchise. For those unfamiliar with the game, you will choose one Elder One and one Episode Box which sets up the scenario you are about to play. Then you will play as an investigator to try to uncover and stop the old one from returning (or sending them back) over the course of the game. You will fight multiple monsters, try to overcome a ritual, and have to deal with the inevitable madness that comes with dealing with the Mythos.

If you love a narrative-driven, Cthulhu and Lovecraft-themed game then you should definitely consider this project.

Kickstart Monday: Mini Mints and Masters our Childhood

Welcome to Kickstart Monday!!! Due to recovering from Gen Con, completely losing track of time, and general craziness that work has been I realize this is going out on Wednesday. There is a ton going on in the world of crowdfunding so I didn’t want to miss a week. Let’s take a look at this week’s projects.

Masters of the Universe: The Board Game – Clash For Eternia

Masters of the Universe: The Board Game – Clash For Eternia from CMON is a blast from our child hood. Masters of the Universe cartoons were a weekly delight for myself. For me, backing this project is just to own the figures and a piece of my child hood as much as it’s about being able to play this game.

In the game, players take on the role of a group of heroes or villians to carry out an epic battle for the fate of Eternia. Each game you will play out a scenario. The players will then take on a controller player who has characters that they manage and works to thwart the players.

This looks to be a fun throw back to our child hood with all of the characters and classic look of the original cartoon. If you are like me and love the Masters of the Universe then you will want to back this project from CMON.

Mint Mini

Mint Mini from Poketto is to be the last of the Mint series of games. These games come in small tins that resemble the tins that mint candies would come in. These games are ideal for travel due to their size, protective metal tin, and generally small amount of table space that they occupy.

In Mint Mini you will play a light drafting game for the opportunity to play one of the mini games inspired by the other Mint games. For 1-4 players, this game has an estimated play time of 20 minutes. Like the other Mint games, expect plenty of references to mints and lighter game play.

There are a few add ons with this project that are worth noting. Game mats and options to pick up and add in the other Mint games is worthy of note. Additionally, there is an option to pick up additional blank tins that you can use to store components and stuff in. Playmats are always nice, but the metal lunch box that you can use to store all of your Mint games in is classic.

If you travel and want to take your game on the go then you should check out this project from Poketto.

Kickstart Monday: Amazing Projects for You to Unite and Survive

It may not be Monday, but it’s still time for this week’s look at crowd funding projects. This week we’ll take a look at two board games that are live on Kickstarter right now.

Marvel United: X-Men

Courtesy of the Kickstarter Project

Marvel United: X-Men from CMON Games adds your favorite mutants from the Marvel comic universe to the all ready popular Marvel United game. You can pick up either the base game or the base game plus expansion. Of course, with CMON Games there are always plenty of stretch goals and other exclusives that will only be available via this Kickstarter.

If you aren’t familiar with the game this is a card driven tableau building game. Both player and villain cards will be added to the story line. When cards are added there will be effects from those cards. You will be able to combine different cards in the story line to do even greater effects. Ultimately, you will need to rescue civilians, defeat thugs, and make your way to take on whatever villain you are taking on.

If you have what it takes to face down the like of Magneto or Apocalypse then you should definitely back this project!

Board Royale: Survival Evolved

Courtesy of the Kickstarter Project

Board Royale: Survival Evolved from Arvis Games is back for it’s second printing with added expansions for new game play experiences. Expect a heavy player interaction/elimination game of playing cards to attack opponents until there is only one player remaining. The second printing will incorporate a number of changes that were provided since the release of the game.

In addition, new expansions are now added. The Wild Hunt adds various beasts. The Zombie expansion adds, well, zombies of course. Add onto that new missions, skills and secret weapons will build on the game with even more possibilities.

If you love aggressive, card driven games where inevitably you will crush your opponents to be the lone survivor then this game is worth checking out.
