Hobby Update 11/2/2020

Harley Quinn
Back to Gotham Set

It’s been a busy and hectic couple of weeks, but when it’s busy you just have to keep that paint brush working. That means I have a few projects finished to share. Most of the work I have been doing is really focused on super heroes for the Batman Miniature Game by Knight Models and Marvel: Crisis Protocol by Atomic Mass Games.

Harley Quinn was the most recent project. She’s one of the most dynamic posed models I have for the Batman Miniature Game. I love the scenic base and I feel it adds so much character to the model. I didn’t have much direction when I started this model. I focused initially on the bottom elements of the figure and worked my way slowly up the model filling in colors and slowly working up the highlights. As I finished the model I wanted the eye to have two focal points. The first, and primary, was going to be Harley’s hair and face. I think this area of bright color on what is otherwise a darker shaded model really makes this an instant place your eye is drawn. As the eye works it’s way down the model the second focal point comes into play with the stone clown face having just enough color and lighter shading to stand out on the base.

Let’s Talk About Sculpting Your Own Banners

2014-08-30 13.16.49 I talked about taking a class at Gen Con to start to develop my underdeveloped sculpting skills and after the class, one of the things that was discussed was making a banner. With my Daemon army, I am planning on having 3 units of Tzeench Horrors so I thought this would be the perfect time to start trying out my new skills. After all, I had whipped out several chunks of chain at this point, a feather, and a purity seal. Heck I must be an expert right!

So, I am going to point out, I am no pro at this, as I quickly learned and I probably could use a few more lessons, but the end result is pretty cool. It will take a little bit to get better, but I figure I can take what I have have done here and with a some practice and watch some videos and ask advise and my next efforts are only going to improve. I am, however, righting this article to let you know that this is something that you can do too. If you don’t take on new projects and try to develop your skills as a hobbiest, then you are going to eventually get bored with the hobby, painting and modeling.

Screw City GT 2014

Screw City GT is in it’s third year and this year, there be monsters! Lots of them. For a midwest event to have so many big monsters and creatures is truly awesome. Follow the Conesy via this post all weekend long for what’s going on.

Round 1 – Bill Robertson, Warriors of Chaos
Bill is famously known for Warscore, the tournament scoring application. This year, though he brought a pretty standard warriors army. I went down to his army. Simply put, he played better and I didn’t handle the crazy movement as well of the speed of my army. I did manage though to use the Carmine Dragon to kill the chaos toad dragon, but that was about it.
