WiscoDice at the Best Four Days in Gaming

Suzanne and myself made the trip this September to our first convention in well over a year and a half. Gen Con 2021 was an amazing experience. There may have been reduced capacity, typical vendors were not there, and some vendors that were there had booths that were significantly different. That didn’t make the convention any less awesome. In fact, in many ways it made Gen Con 2021 the best Gen Con to date!

There was so much to see and experience this year. With smaller crowds and lines you were able to more easily enjoy the things that you wanted to do. Events may have been hard to get signed up for, but it wasn’t so hard if you wanted to walk up and try a game. There are always no shows for events and this year was not an exception. On top of that, almost the entire Hall A was dedicated to open gaming which made that section of the convention a very happening place each evening!

The Best New Board Game Releases for your 2020 Holiday Shopping

It’s the time of the year to be festive. With many of us, we are looking at our favorite online retailers this year to purchase and possibly ship gifts to our friends and loved ones. With so many games out there, WiscoDice is here to provide some guidance as to what to buy your board gaming friends.

It’s worth noting that we have not played any of these titles. These are games that we are excited about ourselves. After reading reviews, watching game play, and doing enough research to make ourselves a little jolly, this is the list that we settled on.

For this list, we have looked at the top games that have either just released or are expected to release before the Christmas (December 25th) holiday. The list will feature both stand alone board games as well as expansions to popular games. Gamers can be very difficult to buy for. Anything that has just released going into the holiday season is something your gamer just might not have in their collections yet!

I hope you are excited for our holiday board game top 10 shopping list!!!

Gaming Spotlight: Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar

T’Zolkin – Check out those Gears on the Game Board!

One of my favorite board games ever, I was able to play it again this weekend and it reminded me just how cool this game is. The game has a loose, Mayan theme. The best part of this game, in my opinion, is the board. There is a lot going on with the board, but it’s pretty intuitive and every turn you interact with it by moving the board. The board is made up of giant gears that all interconnect. While still being a worker placement/earn resources type game, the dynamic board and great art adds to the feel and theme of the game allowing players to immerse them into the experience of the game. This is something that I find so lacking in so many great games, particularly these worker placement games.
