Extra Life 2021 – D&D One Off The Darktides Night

For those of you considering participating in the Dungeons and Dragons One Off session here are all of the details. I want to say I am extremely excited to be running this game and am really looking forward to what kind of craziness will be explored.

Make sure you check out all of the details and donate to our Extra Life Campaign.

Event Description

Step into the world of Zyathé. Discover a haunted tree house and uncover a mystery that will surely chill you to the bone. Darktide’s Night is an evening when the spirits cross more easily into the material plane. It is best to stay indoors, whispered prayers to your deities on your lips, and protections at your doors.

Characters

We will be using pre-generated 2nd level characters. Each character will have a unique backstory and character traits to aid with roleplaying. At the start of session I will provide a link to the character sheets and each player will be able to select a character. If two players select the same character and can’t resolve who get will play the character, then I will roll a dice to determine.

Primary Rule

Have fun, but not at the expense of others. I see my job as the DM is to facilitate all of the players into having a good time. I hope you can bring the same attitude to the game.

Dice and Dice Rolls

I am using a trust system. Roll real dice, tell me what you rolled. Stay honest. This is a one off and it’s about the experience and the environments you will explore. Cheating at a few dice rolls won’t provide you any real significant challenge and a few failures ultimately are better for the story as a whole.

Building My D&D Miniature Collection from Scratch

I recently decided to run a Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) campaign as the Dungeon Master (DM). I had been going back and forth on deciding if I was going to do this for well over a year. Running these things is a massive commitment, yet exciting. Shows like Critical Role helped get me excited to role play again.

At one time, I had crazy amounts of dwarfs, humans, goblins, monsters, and other fantasy creatures. That’s just inevitable when you are an avid Warhammer collector. However, when Warhammer Fantasy Battles came to an end, I came to realize that there was less and less of an opportunity to use them. Because of this, I sold most of my massive collection off.

This meant that I needed to expand my miniatures collection as a Dungeon Master. With a couple of months before the first session I dug out my Reaper Bones Kickstarter models and started through the game store in search of models I did not have and would need.

Preparing Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden for Play

I always loved the R.A. Salvatore stories of Bruenor and Drizzt in Icewind Dale. At the game store one day, I saw a new campaign module for Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. It was at that moment that I knew that I would run this campaign. It was time to get back into the DM’s chair.

It’s been several years since I have played Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). I started playing the game as a teenager and continued as a young adult, so slipping back into the comfortable chair of being the Dungeon Master (DM) for a game did not seem too daunting. Then I opened the book and found a massively open ended campaign with 12 starting quests, 10 starting locations, and a leveling system that I have never considered. Getting this thing started was going to be harder then I anticipated.

Let’s dive into the decisions I made to help kick off this D&D campaign!
