Kickstart Monday: Majestic Mountains Are Ready for Exploration

Welcome to Kickstart Monday! Kickstart Monday is our weekly series where we feature two or more crowdfunded projects in the tabletop gaming industry. This week, we are looking at two games that feature mountain fairing fantasy races.

Fall of the Mountain King

Fall of the Mountain King from Burnt Island Games features the prequal game to their popular In the Hall of the Mountain King game. In this game you will collect and build a tableau of ancestry cards that will add to your in game actions. This will ultimately lead to an interesting territory control game on the game board.

This is a complete stand alone game. Like many of these sequel/expansion projects there are options to get the original game in the series. If you enjoy playing the bad guys, like games that have euro mechanics, and like games that feature great player interaction then these games are likely to delight you.

Dwar7s Winter & The Lost Tribes

Dwar7s Winter & The Lost Tribes is the latest game and expansion to the popular Dwar7s games from Vesuvius Media Ltd. While these games boast their unique cartoonish art style that makes them family friendly, there is plenty of game in the boxes.

In Dwar7s Winter, you will pick up in the fall and play more of a tower defense game, something unique for the series. You will build squads, man the walls, and defend the outpost from marauding monsters.

For the Dwar7s: The Lost Tribes expansion adds ogres, crystal dwarfs, and half-bloods. With more content for this great game, and more figures, this alone should make this Kickstarter popular. This particular expansion is a Kickstarter exclusive so make sure you back now to get your copy.

Conesy’s Diary: Episode 49 Warhammer Fantasy Dwarf vs Vampire Counts Battle Report

1000 Point Dwarf Army Ready for Battle

I recently played a game of Warhammer Fantasy Battles against Brian’s Vampire Counts. It was great fun, even if the game didn’t go my way. Seeing the battle lines form up, come together, and due battle was a blast.

Favorite Memories and Plastic Treasures Await You in Dougan’s Delve

The Lords and Heroes of Dougan’s Delve

It’s been a long time since I spent time thinking about Warhammer Fantasy. At the end of things, when the End Times were upon us, our lives were changed forever as Games-Workshop announced the end of Warhammer Fantasy. When I set up my new game room I was able to put out the army on display (for the first time ever). It made me excited to think about getting the army back on the table.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

The Dwarf army was the very first army I ever thought about collecting when I originally purchased the Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition starter set. Yes, I was enamored with the valiant Brettonian Knights and the watery Lizardmen of that set. Indeed, even my first games were with those two armies. There was that glint of gold in my eye though as I dreamed of building that first dwarf army.

WWHFB Term 1 Play-offs

Well, if you didn’t know the Wisconsin Warhammer Fantasy Battles League has a regular play-offs 3 times a year. What happens is that for 3 months, players are encouraged to go to play games with other players who are registered as part of the club and then go to the website and enter the game. Using a ruleset, each game is scored a certain number of points for things like the size of the game, winning, losing, and if the army was painted. At the end of the three months the top four players who can manage to make it out to play-offs are invited to an event.

For the Winter/Spring term of 2015 we had 24 players score their games, so there was a lot of interest in league play. With the top four players then were invited to a traditional, single elimination two round event that was hosted at Pegasus Games on April 25, 2015. Our qualifying players were:

The End Times Campaign: Week 2

2015-04-13 21.56.52

Another week is in the books, and what a week it was! Huge shifts in the campaign this week as the games were played and things were fast and furious. This week we had 11 players out which helped get everyone excited. After some decision making of who would play who, it was on to the match ups. The forces of Chaos still very down on the number of locations controlled was able to pick first, and led the choices of match ups. Overall, this system seems to work pretty well and lends a real team aspect to things. One thing I will note, and it’s not in the rules pack, but if your group tends to pick the same match ups every week, then you should have a rule in place to force the match ups to be different opponents for the first few picks. When you get down to the last two picks or so, you can’t help things as we did have one repeat match up.

  1. Undead Legion (Stark) vs Ogres (Eric)
  2. Dwarfs (Gordon) vs Warriors of Chaos (Conesy)
  3. Empire (Nick) vs Ogres (Big Ben R.)
  4. High Elves (Fred) vs Warriors of Chaos (Brian)
  5. High Elves (Kenny K) vs Skaven (Trevor) vs Ogres (Aaron)
