Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Indigogo to find projects that interest us.
There are certainly some exciting projects out in crowdfunding land. Let’s take a look at a couple of games that we think you should check out.
First this week we have the Kickstarter for Stonespine Architects a 1 to 5 player game from Thunderworks games and the designer of Cartographers.
We are big fans of Thunderworks Games here at Wiscodice. Not only are they local to Madison Wisconsin, but they have a great track record of producing excellent games! Stonespine Architects puts you in the role of a dungeon architect. You will draft cards which become the rooms of your dungeon and your goal is to construct the most dangerous dungeon you can. The rooms you choose and their arrangement will help you achieve scoring goals. You will also spend gold to add improvements to your dungeon such as monsters, traps and treasures. The card drafting and tile laying mechanics combined with the dungeon building theme hit a real sweet spot for me and I am really looking forward to this one.
Stonespine Architects is another smaller box game from Thunderworks and the Kickstarter pledge starts at a very reasonable $35 USD, so if you are ready to draft some dangerous dungeons, head over to the campaign page before August 1st 2023 to make your pledge.
Hamlet: By the Lake
Next up this week we have the Kickstarter for Hamlet: By the Lake an expansion for the game Hamlet from publisher Might Boards.
Hamlet is a medium weight village building game where players competitively work to build and expand their little hamlet by managing resources, transporting goods across the village and contributing to the construction of the Church in the village center. This expansion Hamlet: By the Lake adds new components and gameplay elements. Now lakes will form in the empty spaces that are created between the tiles of the village as it expands. Players have access to boats which allow them to transport goods across water and players can catch fish that can be used to cook meals that grant special abilities.
Thematically Hamlet: By the Lake seems like a perfect addition to the original game and it looks to provide new gameplay without a ton of extra rules. The base pledge Hamlet: By the Lake runs about $34 USD and you can also snag a deluxe edition of the original game during the campaign as a part of the all-in pledge or on its own. The campaign for Hamlet: By the Lake will end July 25th 2023, so make sure to visit the project page before then.
