Welcome to Kickstart Monday! This is our weekly series featuring 2 or more crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye. We scour over platforms like Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Indigogo to find projects that interest us.
There are certainly some exciting projects out in crowdfunding land. Let’s take a look at a couple of games that we think you should check out.
Children of Morta: The Board Game
Our first game this week is Children of Morta: The Boardgame from Roomiz Games on Kickstarter.
Children of Morta: The Board Game is a 1 to 4 player cooperative adventure game based on the popular video game Children of Morta. You and the other players will become one of the members of the Bergson family working together to fight the corruption plaguing their homeland.
The game features two major play modes; Story Mode and Family Trials. In the Story Mode you will play through a narrative campaign and unlock permanent upgrades for your characters. Family Trials is more like a roguelike video game where your progress is reset each session. Each family member has their own set of abilities and unique playstyle. You’ll need a mix of abilities and cooperative tactics as you explore dungeons and uncover their challenges and secrets. As a family you’ll use a shared bag building system to progress as a group and to draw and coordinate your skills. You’ll also share a resource called Rage which you can use to power up your abilities but you’ll need to manage it carefully to use it to its fullest potential. As you adventure you’ll face off against a variety of enemies including mighty boss monsters that use their own unique deck of cards making boss fights challenging and unpredictable. And whether you are playing a single session or playing through the campaign setup will be quick and easy with the unfolding adventure book and flexibility to allow players to leave and join the group as needed.
Children of Morta: The Board Game on Kickstarter now starting at $45 for the Guardian Pledge. At this level you get the Standard Edition and standard stretch goals. For $85 you can make the Goddess’s Pledge and receive the Deluxe edition which features upgraded acrylic tokens, metal coins and both standard and deluxe stretch goals. The Divine’s Pledge is available for $115 and includes every item in the deluxe edition plus neoprene player mats and custom marbled dice. The campaign for Children of Morta: The Board Game will end on May 30, 2024, so gather the family to make your pledge before then.
ICE: Second Edition
Our second game this week is ICE: Second Edition from ThisWay Editions on Gamefound.
ICE is a strategy adventure board game for 1 to 5 players where archeological guilds are exploring an icy expanse in a search for valuable artifacts in order to bring renown to their guild. Players take a group of explorers led by their Expedition Leader out into the frozen Valley of the Elders, represented by a 3 layer game board made up of 3 sets of hex tiles. As you explore you will be digging through these terrain tiles and excavating ancient artifacts to collect for special powers and end game points.
The game takes place over 4 days where each player will take turns spending Exploration Points to take actions. Actions include, building camps, moving your explorers across the map, excavating tiles and artifacts, planning ahead to gain extra expiration points in the next round and even spending Renown (points) to take extra actions in the current round. You will also have access to special abilities from your specific Archeological Guild and from collecting sets of ancient artifacts. If you explore deep enough you may even uncover the ancient buried city of Azulia, where you will earn points for every section you uncover. After 4 days the expedition that has gathered the most renown for their guild will be the winner!
This new collectors edition of ICE is available for $140 and includes 2 expansions (Relics and Edifices and Gulid) in a collectors big box, deluxe screen printed meeples and metal coins. If you are a backer of the original version you can opt for a Returning Backers pledge for $49 which includes a conversion kit for the new edition and the Relics expansion. The standard retail edition is also available for $64 or in a bundle with the expansions for $107. If you want to dig further into the reward tiers and other addons, be sure to send out your expedition for ICE: Second Edition before the campaign ends on May 26, 2024.
