Another big week for crowdsourcing. I have three projects again this week. There’s are so many big projects on Kickstarter currently that I feel that I had to include a bonus project for this week and still couldn’t include everything I wanted to.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Cryptozoic Entertainment is releasing it’s take on the Frank Miller Batman in their project Batman: The Dark Knight Returns – The Game. This game can be played either as a stand alone missions or as a campaign game with each mission’s results impacting the next. The game is designed as a solo play experience. There will be four scenarios (books) that you will be able to play through.
During the game, you will need to collect clues that will advance the mission. Be aware though, that the doomsday clock persists over all of the scenarios and you can be assured that in campaign mode if this is ignored to much it will only be bad things for Batman. However, you can visit the Batcave to unlock vehicles, interact with aids like Carrie Kelly Robin and Jim Gordon for extra help, and you will have plenty of gadgets to help the worlds greatest, but older, detective.
Root: The Marauder Expansion
Because we can’t get enough cute little forest critters duking it out for forest dominance, Leder Games has another expansion just for you. Root: The Marauder Expansion will give you two more factions to choose from. The Keepers in Iron (badgers) and the Lord of the Hundreds (rats) will add new asymmetric play styles to your games of Root. Add in the Hirelings, and there’s quite a bit of new content that you can add into your games.
Marauders is aimed at improving two player game play within the Root game system. I feel like I exhausted the game play available from the core box for two players and have shelved the game until I can play it with others. This expansion just might the answer for us to take it back off the shelf and give it a play with new content.
Paladins of the West Kingdom: City of Crowns
Paladins of the West Kingdom is one of my favorite games. It’s satisfyingly complex, challenging decisions, and really solid game play. It’s no surprise that it’s receiving an expansion. Garphill Games are bringing us City of Crowns to add additional flavor to our games of Paladins.
Featuring an expansion to the main board on the right hand side, you will have new actions including the Muster and Negotiate actions. These actions will have their own cards and will allow revealing more Townsfolk and Outsiders to the board each round. In addition, you will have the new Diplomacy attribute to manage. Finally, updated solo play rules for those of you who love or need that experience to play games like these.
