For Board Game Brunch this week we took a trip to the land of Godzilla. We played Kaiju Crush and enjoyed sushi from our local restaurant.

Welcome to Kickstart Monday!!! Our weekly blog series features two or more crowdfunded projects in the tabletop gaming industry. This week we picked a pair of dragon themed games that are active on Kickstarter right now. Hopefully you are as intrigued as we are. Let’s check out these games!!!!
Dragonbond: Lords of Vaala

Dragonbond: Lords of Vaala from Draco Studios brings a unique game experience to the tabletop board game. You will play this tabletop wargame as an asymmetric faction, either a general or dragon. You will play the game over a series of rounds in a race to collect the most Vaala. The first player to 10 Vaala will be declared the winner!
At the start of each round, you will build a deck of cards that are your planned actions for the round. The cards will be resolved in order triggering all of the various actions. Manuever, attack, create bonds, cast spells and harvest the lands as you follow your path to victory.
If the idea of asymetric combat with dragons, epic generals, and various other powers in a beautiful fantasy realm with gorgeous art interests you then you should check out Dragonbond: Lords of Vaala!
Wicked and Wise

Wicked and Wise from Weird Giraffe Games is an asymmetric trick taking game of dragons and mice. This game features all of the common mechanics of any trick taking game. However, what makes this different is that during each round each team will start by choosing a goal (or more than 1). You will then play a round of 5 tricks. Trick playing is standard and players must follow suit. However, one player of the team will play as the dragon player and play using the number of the card and the other player is the mouse, activating the text on the card they play.
Playing as your mouse gives your partner a much more dynamic role. Their cards may have abilities that let you collect coins, swap cards that have been played, or other fun tricks. This helps make this trick taking game something different than the other games like it on the market.
If you like trick taking games, but need something different than the normal game of Euchre then this game is certainly one you should check out.

It’s the start of another week. That means it’s time for Kickstart Monday, our weekly blog series featuring 2 or more crowdfunded gaming projects. This week features a pair of board games that are quite different than each other. Both look really cool though and we thing you should take the time to check them out!
Forests of Pangaia

Forests of Pangaia from Pangaia Games is a strategy board game for 2-4 players. During the game you will be leveraging the four elements to plant and grow your trees on the game board. You will come upon barren lands that will require you to complete “rituals” in the game. When you do this you will score life energy (essentially points). Whoever has the most life energy when the final ritual is completed wins!
This game shines as a shorter strategy game, with a play time indicated between 30-60 minutes. Having reviewed the rules there appears to be some real depth in strategy in the game, but the rules are easy to pick up and understand. This really does appear to be a game that will be great as a family game, but also have enough game for even hard core gamers to find enjoyment out of.
If you are looking for a game that features nature, beautiful trees, a dynamic hex based player board, and lighter rules and shorter play time then this is game you should really check out.
Interceptor

Interceptor from the FASA Corporation is a game about space combat with players controlling a small wing of fighters. The core game comes with enough ships, cards, dice, and other accessories to play the game for what looks like two players. With multiple factions available there will be lots to explore in this game.
Players will build their fighter wing of at least 6 fighters and pilots from the wide selection of options available. Then using a predominately D10 dice system for determining results such as shooting at enemy fighters, players will take each other on in a game that should run about 60 minutes of play time for experienced players.
If you are looking for a cool, space themed game that takes represents fast paced space combat and test your mettle against other players and factions then this game very well could be for you.

Today’s board game brunch featured a two-player game of Village (base game only) paired with homemade biscuits and gravy.
Village is a 20-year old, worker placement game that continues to see the table. Each player is responsible for growing the family through multiple generations. There are multiple paths for points, and to have the most famous and prosperous family, you best pay attention to them all.

The base game plays 2-4 players, scaling excellently to each player count. Total play time is just under an hour for today’s two player game. Even with four players, this does not take much longer. Of course, my husband eeked out a win going heaving on the religious points.

Brunch was biscuits and gravy, a delicious treat for us. Today we tried Chef John’s Buttermilk Biscuits, which had lovely flaky layers. the biscuits were topped with Ben’s sausage gravy: cooked pork sausage simmered in made from scratch gravy (flour, onion, milk, garlic, black pepper, and butter).
Village with Biscuits and Gravy was a great way to start our Sunday. If you have any suggestions for food and game pairings you’d like to see, let me know via Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Enjoy your Sunday
