This week was 4 days of gaming fun in Madison, Wisconsin at Gamehole Con! The convention features a plethora of tabletop gaming events, including role-playing, board games, and miniature gaming. WiscoDice had a blast running many games each day of the convention. We topped off the gaming marathon with our weekly Board Game Brunch, featuring Tiny Towns.

The Game…Tiny Towns

Tiny Towns by AEG features simultaneous play as you compete to create a town that has the highest scoring building combos. For most of the game, all players are placing the same colored cubes each turn, but the placement in the town grid and which buildings are constructed will vary.

Today we were able to play in person with some of our WiscoDice fans. The game is quick and we were able to get multiple plays in with 6 players. Each player had their own strategy that was often times inadvertently thwarted by others choosing colors that did not fit in their plan.

The Food…Mini Muffins

We worked up quite the appetite with all the construction. With convention rules, we we not able to bring food in to eat. Instead we provided some mini muffin packs for everyone to enjoy after the game. Since it was a local gaming convention, we enjoyed the muffins with a mocha from Just Coffee.

WiscoDice at the Best Four Days in Gaming

Suzanne and myself made the trip this September to our first convention in well over a year and a half. Gen Con 2021 was an amazing experience. There may have been reduced capacity, typical vendors were not there, and some vendors that were there had booths that were significantly different. That didn’t make the convention any less awesome. In fact, in many ways it made Gen Con 2021 the best Gen Con to date!

There was so much to see and experience this year. With smaller crowds and lines you were able to more easily enjoy the things that you wanted to do. Events may have been hard to get signed up for, but it wasn’t so hard if you wanted to walk up and try a game. There are always no shows for events and this year was not an exception. On top of that, almost the entire Hall A was dedicated to open gaming which made that section of the convention a very happening place each evening!

The Best New Board Game Releases for your 2020 Holiday Shopping

It’s the time of the year to be festive. With many of us, we are looking at our favorite online retailers this year to purchase and possibly ship gifts to our friends and loved ones. With so many games out there, WiscoDice is here to provide some guidance as to what to buy your board gaming friends.

It’s worth noting that we have not played any of these titles. These are games that we are excited about ourselves. After reading reviews, watching game play, and doing enough research to make ourselves a little jolly, this is the list that we settled on.

For this list, we have looked at the top games that have either just released or are expected to release before the Christmas (December 25th) holiday. The list will feature both stand alone board games as well as expansions to popular games. Gamers can be very difficult to buy for. Anything that has just released going into the holiday season is something your gamer just might not have in their collections yet!

I hope you are excited for our holiday board game top 10 shopping list!!!
