Moving Forward with Warhammer Fantasy

A lot of people I have spoken too are dead set to keep Warhammer Fantasy Battles alive in some way. I applaud them for the effort as this will be a tough road moving forward. If your one of those people, then this post is for you!

So, what can you do to help talk your fellow players into playing this game still?

  • For right now, it’s not much work. Sure, there are people trying out Age of Sigmar to see what it is and how they can make it work (or make it fail) but the vast majority of players just don’t know enough about this new game and are just as happy playing the game that is within their comfort level.
  • Next up, let’s face it, 6 months from now the scope of what models and rulebooks that are going to be available on the shelf at your local Games-Workshop or Local Game Store is going to be much different. If you are going to grow your armies and maybe even talk a new player into the game, look to companies like Mantic, Avatar’s of War, Raging Heroes, and more for models.
  • Address some of the balance and rules issues as a greater community. People will need to keep things fresh so I wouldn’t be surprised to see local groups start to add in units/rules based on their experiences with the game and models they can get from other manufacturers. Don’t forget to go back and help out armies like Tomb Kings and maybe tone down some things that you don’t enjoy in your games.

5500 Point Lizardmen vs OnG

Video battle report has been uploaded for the big 8th ed Warhammer Fantasy game that Kenny playing the Lizardmen and myself playing Orcs and Goblins. That is 5500 points per player, really probably closer to 5600 or so with over 600 models total on the table.

Also check out Kenny’s review of the game and coverage of our recent game of Age of Sigmar on The Combat Phase Podcast. Combat Phase Episode 104

5500 Points Lizardmen vs Orcs and Goblins

Yeah, this is special. Giving the 8th edition the kind of respect going out that it deserves. Kenny and I have a combined of close to 700 models on the table. Ok, 400+ are just in Orcs and Goblins figures!

Kenny is playing the Lizardmen and I am playing the Orcs and Goblins.

The game is over and clean up is finished. Look for the video and more pictures to be added soon from Kenny’s side of the game!

End Times Campaign: Week 4

2015-04-27 22.04.37
Another week has went by folks, and the old world shakes before the onslaught of the chaos warbands from the north. Skaven have krept out of their holes and swarm the world, pinning armies both the the front and rear. It is a dark world for the people that inhabit the old world, but yet they hold out and fight.

So, once again we all gathered at Pegasus Games for another week of campaign play. We had seven players out, so we paired up a 2 on 1 to make up the difference. Here were this week’s match-ups.

  1. Undead Legion (Stark) vs. Skaven (Trevor)
  2. High Elves (Fred) vs. Ogres (Ben R.)
  3. Empire (Nick and Brian) vs. Warriors of Chaos (Conesy)

WWHFB Term 1 Play-offs

Well, if you didn’t know the Wisconsin Warhammer Fantasy Battles League has a regular play-offs 3 times a year. What happens is that for 3 months, players are encouraged to go to play games with other players who are registered as part of the club and then go to the website and enter the game. Using a ruleset, each game is scored a certain number of points for things like the size of the game, winning, losing, and if the army was painted. At the end of the three months the top four players who can manage to make it out to play-offs are invited to an event.

For the Winter/Spring term of 2015 we had 24 players score their games, so there was a lot of interest in league play. With the top four players then were invited to a traditional, single elimination two round event that was hosted at Pegasus Games on April 25, 2015. Our qualifying players were:
